Medina United complete comeback victory over Real de Banjul

By Nyima Cham

Medina United FC secured a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over defending champions Real de Banjul FC in the ongoing Gambia Football Federation First Division League at the Basori Mini Stadium.

The result handed Medina United revenge after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Real de Banjul during the first round at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium. Real de Banjul started brightly and opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Agibou Dibba, giving the defending champions a first-half advantage in front of their home supporters.

Medina United pressed for an equaliser before the break, but Real de Banjul held firm to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The visitors returned for the second half with renewed determination and eventually found the breakthrough in the 76th minute when Mustapha Jarju struck to level the match.

The equaliser shifted momentum in favour of Medina United as both sides searched for a winning goal in the closing stages.

With four minutes remaining, Yusupha Chatty tapped home the decisive goal to complete the comeback and secure all three points for the visitors. Real de Banjul attempted to respond late in the game, but Medina United remained compact defensively until the final whistle.

The victory moves Medina United, who are newcomers in the top flight, into second place on the league table with 37 points, while Real de Banjul remain sixth with 32 points.
