Gina Bass returns as Gambia builds strong Glasgow 2026 Team

The Gambia National Olympic Committee confirmed a strong list of athletes set to represent the country at the upcoming Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with experienced Olympians and emerging talents leading the charge across athletics, judo, cycling and swimming.

Leading the headlines is the return of Gambian sprint queen Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye, who is expected to spearhead Team Gambia’s athletics campaign in Glasgow following her outstanding performances at Birmingham 2022.

In judo, The Gambia will be represented by Olympian Faye Alex Njie and Abdourahman Ceesay, both bringing valuable international experience and competitiveness to the team.

Faye Alex Njie is Gambia’s most decorated judoka and currently holds Gambia’s highest medal from the Commonwealth Games after his silver medal success at Birmingham 2022.

Swimming will feature Olympians Ousman Jobe and Pap D Jonga, while rising talent Alieu Jammeh is set to make his debut appearance at a major multisport Games in cycling.

The women’s sprint relay team will include star athletes Isatou Sey, Nyimasata Jawneh, and US based sprinter Maimuna Jallow, all of whom are appearing at their first Commonwealth Games.

The remaining members of the men’s sprint team are expected to be confirmed in due course as preparations intensify ahead of Glasgow 2026.
