Senegal has no plans to set up a public scheme to help supporters travel to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The main hurdle: strict visa requirements.
Sports Minister Khady Diène Gaye made the government’s position clear during an interview on Sud FM this Sunday: “We will not be moving supporters from Dakar to the United States.”
This decision confirms that there will be no state-backed program to support Senegalese fans traveling to the tournament.
The minister also stressed the sensitive issue of visas, reminding everyone that the U.S. authorities retain full sovereignty over their issuance.
She mentioned steps already taken, including talks with supporter groups like Allez Casa and Lébougui, but admitted that there have been no concrete results so far.
This stance comes as excitement for the 2026 World Cup is already running high in Senegal—a country known for its massive fan turnout at major international competitions.
But this time, administrative and diplomatic barriers could keep large groups of supporters from making the trip.
For the authorities, the priority now is to focus on supporting the event locally, while leaving it up to individual supporters to handle their own visa applications and make their way to North America.
