The United Democratic Party (UDP) proudly congratulates the Mayor of the Banjul City Council, Madam Rohey Malick Lowe Saidykhan, on her nomination to deliver a statement on behalf of local governments at the closing ceremony of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), alongside the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The event is scheduled to take place tomorrow, April 22, at 3:00 PM Azerbaijan local time.
The World Urban Forum, convened by UNHabitat, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization and human settlements.
It brings together world leaders, policymakers, mayors, civil society organizations, development partners, and local government representatives to discuss solutions to the growing challenges facing cities and communities across the globe.
Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe’s selection for this important role is a proud moment not only for the UDP, but also for The Gambia and the African continent.
Her nomination reflects international recognition of her leadership, advocacy, and tireless commitment to strengthening local governance, advancing women’s political participation, and promoting inclusive urban development.
As President of REFELA (Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa) and Vice President of the Global Parliament of Mayors, Mayor Lowe has emerged as one of Africa’s most influential voices in local governance and women’s leadership.
Through her work, she has consistently championed policies and initiatives aimed at empowering women and young people, improving municipal governance, and ensuring that local councils remain central to sustainable development and democratic participation.
Under her leadership at the Banjul City Council, important strides have been made in urban renewal, environmental sanitation, women’s empowerment, youth engagement, and international cooperation.
