Gambia to play Iran in friendly on May 29

The Gambia Football Federation officially announced on May 7 the organization of a high-profile friendly: Gambia will take on Iran on May 29, 2026 in Antalya, Turkey.

Gambia is set for a major clash. The GFF confirmed that the Scorpions will face Iran on May 29, 2026 in Antalya. This is a tremendous test for the Gambian national team, as Iran currently sits 21st in the FIFA rankings and has already secured its spot at the 2026 World Cup. The GFF also highlighted that Iran is among the most prominent and historic nonAfrican teams Gambia has ever played.

This friendly will serve as a crucial preparatory fixture for the Scorpions as they gear up for future challenges, most notably the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
