Dr Ceesay lampoons Sawo, Neneh Cheyasine after radio program

By Adama Makasuba

Dr Ismaila Ceesay has criticised senior figures of the People’s Progressive Party following their appearance on a radio programme, accusing them of misrepresenting the impact of government development projects.

The Information Minister took aim at Saikou Sawo and his deputy Neneh Cheyasine Kebe after listening to their discussion on West Coast Radio.

He said the broadcast caught his attention while he was driving, adding that he initially believed the speakers were foreigners discussing their experiences in The Gambia.

“Last week I was driving and I bumped on a radio programme. At first, I didn’t know who was talking; I thought it was some American couple who came to The Gambia for a couple of weeks, went back to the US and started acting as Gambian experts,” Dr Ceesay said.

He added: “But later I realised these were politicians who want to govern this country.” Dr Ceesay criticised what he described as remarks undermining the impact of infrastructure projects carried out under the government of Adama Barrow, particularly road construction in rural communities.

“Because the things they were saying sounded like two American tourists who came on holiday, confined themselves in the tourism enclave, spoke to a few people and then started insulting the people of Hakalang and Kiang West by saying the roads President Barrow built for them are worthless,” he said.

He argued that communities benefiting from the projects have experienced real improvements in transportation and accessibility, insisting that dismissing those developments ignores the realities faced by residents.
