Press release
The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is closely following ongoing developments regarding the supplementary voter registration process.
Following the recent stakeholder meetings convened by the Independent Electoral Commission ( IEC), we take note of the Commission’s concerns regarding interference in the registration process. We align with the need to preserve the integrity and smooth conduct of this important national exercise.
We urge all our regional executives and supporters to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding throughout this exercise. Under no circumstances should anyone attempt to disrupt or interfere with the process in any form. Our commitment is to uphold peace, order, and respect for democratic procedures.
The PPP fundamentally believes in, and upholds as a core value, respect for the rule of law. All our actions and positions are guided by this principle. In line with the Election Act, the IEC does not have the authority to arbitrarily reject registrations at the point of submission.
Its role is to receive applications and assess submitted documents at face value, as long as they appear valid and have not been tampered with. Any disputes or objections arising from the registration process fall within the jurisdiction of the revising courts. Furthermore, the IEC is required to publicly display the provisional voter register.
At that stage, all stakeholders, including our party representatives, are encouraged to carefully review the published information and submit any concerns or objections through the appropriate legal channels. These matters will then be addressed by the revising courts during their sittings.
The PPP remains committed to s afeguarding the integrity, transparency, and credibility of the electoral process.
