Aziz Bensouda, a brother of Talib Ahmed Bensouda, and a senior figure in the newly launched UMC political movement, has been implicated a in a multi-million dollar gold scandal now under active investigation by The Gambia Police Force.
The Gambia Police is understood to be investigating a multi-million dollar gold transaction gone wrong, in which the name of Aziz Bensouda, brother of opposition figure and UMC founder Talib Bensouda, has emerged as a person of interest, this newspaper can reveal.
A source close to the investigation, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that detectives are piecing together the details of an alleged gold deal that reportedly involved hundreds of kilo grams of gold said to have been brought into The Gambia from a neighboring West African country.
‘The investigation is ongoing and a number of individuals have come under scrutiny in connection with the transaction,’ the source told this reporter. ‘We are following the evidence wherever it leads.’
It is alleged that the transaction, estimated to be worth several million dollars, soured after dispute arose between the parties invoked over the authenticity and delivery of the gold.
The precise role of Aziz Bensouda in the affair has not been officially disclosed by the investigators. The story is developing and further details will be published as they become available.
