The President Mohammed B.S. V Jallow departed The Gambia on Thursday for Beijing, where he will represent the country at the 2026 Forum on Global Human Rights Governance.
The high-level gathering, jointly organised by China’s State Council Information Office and the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is being held under the theme: “Joint Development, Shared Human Rights: The 40th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration on the Right to Development and a New Vision for Global Human Rights Governance.”
The forum marks 40 years since the adoption of the Declaration on the Right to Development by the United Nations General Assembly in 1986 and seeks to promote dialogue on development, human rights and international cooperation.
According to officials, Vice President Jallow will join world leaders, policymakers, scholars, diplomats and representatives of international organisations to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in advancing sustainable development and human rights globally.
The trip is expected to provide a platform for The Gambia to share its experiences and perspectives on governance, development and human rights while deepening cooperation with international partners.
Government officials said the Vice President’s participation reflects The Gambia’s commitment to promoting human rights, sustainable development and constructive engagement on global issues.
The forum will also focus on strengthening international collaboration and exploring new approaches to building a more equitable and inclusive global human rights system.
