Barrow dares opposition to unite behind Darboe

By Fatoumatta Sillah

President Adama Barrow has openly challenged opposition parties to unite behind United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Ousainu Darboe as a single presidential candidate, insisting that even a united front would not stop him from winning the next election.

Speaking on Saturday in Foday Kunda during the launch of new road development projects, President Adama Barrow said he would welcome a consolidated opposition, but maintained confidence in his electoral strength.

“Let them unite and make my father their candidate. It will just take one hit to defeat him and make him retire,” President Adama Barrow said.

The remarks were interpreted as a direct political dare to opposition forces, as he positioned himself as confident in facing any unified challenger in the upcoming polls.

President Adama Barrow further dismissed opposition criticism, arguing that his administration’s development record across the country speaks for itself.

He cited infrastructure expansion, including roads, water supply, electricity, healthcare services and agricultural support, as key achievements under his government.

He listed several benefiting communities, including Foday Kunda, Baja Kunda, Wuli, Basse, Jimara, Kombo and other parts of the country, saying development is visible nationwide.

“They will come and say President Barrow cannot deliver, but they are destroyers and enemies of themselves. They do not love themselves, The Gambia, or its people.

I am your servant, and I will do what you want,” he added. President Adama Barrow also warned against what he described as attempts to destabilize the electoral process, urging citizens to avoid confrontation and maintain peace ahead of the elections.
