Seedy SK Njie, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Deputy Spokesperson of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), has cast doubt on ongoing opposition coalition talks, describing the initiative as unworkable.
Speaking to party supporters in Farato Sotokoi Daru, Njie said the opposition lacks unity and direction, arguing that the proposed alliance is unlikely to produce a common candidate.
He questioned who would emerge as flagbearer among key opposition figures, suggesting that internal differences could undermine the coalition effort.
Njie also alleged that some opposition actors are attempting to draw supporters from rival parties, including the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), the United Democratic Party (UDP), and even the NPP. He did not provide evidence for the claims.
He said the ruling party remains confident of public support, insisting that Gambians would not turn away from President Adama Barrow.
Njie used the occasion to defend the government’s record, pointing to what he described as progress in infrastructure, electricity expansion, and education.
According to him, the administration is focused on long-term development and improving living conditions across the country.
