Bar Association leads talks on proposed broadcast regulations

By Adama Makasuba

The Gambia Bar Association has convened a stakeholder dialogue on proposed broadcast content regulations, bringing together key institutions and media actors for consultations on the future of media policy in The Gambia.

The meeting held on 28 April, involved representatives from the Ministry of Information, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, the Gambia Press Union and other media stakeholders.

The Bar Association said the dialogue was organised to ensure a structured and inclusive process in shaping regulations that affect the broadcasting sector.

In a statement, the association described the inaugural session as productive, noting that participants engaged in good faith and showed a willingness to work collaboratively.

Stakeholders adopted the Terms of Reference for the process and agreed on a roadmap to guide further discussions.

The Bar Association said it remains confident that continued dialogue will help produce regulations that serve the public interest while safeguarding press freedom and media independence.

The next round of discussions is scheduled for 8 May at the Bar Association Secretariat.
